Windowing

Windowing is a technique used in certain satellites (e.g. Deimos-1) that reduces the swath width of each data take to cover only the AOIClosed Area Of Interest intersected by the swath. This is performed on-board as a “post-sensing” action prior to downlink or on-board recording.

The swath footprint will be reduced across-track. It is possible to define a minimum Ratio between “windowed” swath width and full swath width.

No Constraint Windowing ON

When windowing is applied on a swath, a Windowing Factor is applied to the Left and to the Right side of the swath. These two values are added to the swath parameters and made accessible via SaVoir Report and Excel data export.

In the example below a full swath goes from 0 (left) to 1 (right). The Windowed swath will show Windowing Factor Left = 0.318 and Windowing Factor Right = 0.834
