Street of Coverage constellation
When the Streets-of-Coverage design technique is applied to a polar constellation, the resultant optimal configuration is a polar satellite network in which the motion of a spacecraft in one orbital plane is synchronized with that of the spacecraft in the adjacent planes.
Street of coverage concept
Street of Coverage constellations with 40 satellites in 4 planes
The Constellation Wizard allows to define a Street of Coverage constellation:
All parameters are linked, so that when you change one parameter the others will be recalculated to maintain the street of coverage concept so that the constellation provides maximum Earth coverage.
| Satellites count (t) |
Total number of satellites in the constellation
|
| Planes count (p) |
Number of orbit planes
|
| Semi-major axis and Maximum orbit height |
Semi-major axis for all the satellites in the constellation. Both Semi-major axis and maximum orbit height are linked. If you change one, the other will change consequently.
|
| Inclination |
Inclination for all the satellites in the constellation.
|
| Arg.Perigee |
Argument of perigee for all satellites in the constellation. Usually left to 270 degrees or 90 degrees
|
| Min Elevation |
Minimum elevation for establishing satellite visibility cones. The elevation is measured on the tangent plane on ground. The elevation can range from 0 (visibility cone tangent with Earth surface) to 90 degree (Nadir line). The higher the minimum elevation the narrower the visibility cone and therefore the higher the required number of satellites to provide full coverage.
|
| RAAN spread |
It defines the range of RAAN values for the orbit planes. Default value = 180 degree.
|
| Coverage fold |
Defines the desired multiple coverage count. The default value is 1. You may create constellations with N coverage fold so that each point on Earth is covered constantly by at least N satellites a t any time.
|
| Epoch |
common epoch time for all the constellation satellites
