Conical Sensors

A conical sensor has a field of view based on pure line of sight within the defined incidence angle (conical aperture). Conical sensors may be useful to calculate contact opportunities with ground targets for applications like Sat-AIS.

Defining a Conical Sensor

To define a conical sensor just create a copy of a regular sensor and convert it to Conical in the Swath properties grid by changing the Field of View Operation Mode.

Define the Conical Aperture as the Maximum Incidence Angel on ground. Avoid selecting values above 85 degrees.

For Conical Sensors only the satellite nadir track on ground will be drawn.

Calculating intersections

SaVoir will calculate the times of entry and exit of Conical Sensor intersections with any AOI.
