Calculate Satellite sighting
With SaVoir is possible to find time windows where it is possible to sight satellites from a given location under dusk and the satellite hit by the sun.
A satellite will be visible with the naked-eye if
-
There is a line-of-sight between observer and satellite
-
The satellite is hit by the sun,
-
The observer location is at dusk, so that there is sufficient twilight to permit visibility of stars. This condition occurs when the sun is at least 6 degrees below the horizon.
-
The satellite height is within defined limits
-
The sky is sufficiently clear, without clouds. Unfortunately this condition cannot be evaluated by the software, so a cloudless sky will always be assumed.
To obtain a timeline of satellite sighting opportunities do as follows
-
Select one or more satellites one the scenario pane, so that the satellites are visible.
-
Open menu Visibilities / Satellite sighting ... This will open a dialogue to provide time boundaries of analysis, observer location, minimum elevation over the horizon to consider a visibility viable, and satellite height boundaries.
Tip: The observer location is initialized with the current centre of the map view.
-
Select start and end time and eclipse location , click on OK.
-
A Gantt with Satellite sighting will appear
